This piece depicts Adam and Eve, the original Celts, in the garden of Eden before the fall, which centuries later became the impetus for the Pelagian heresy controversy. The Judeo-Christian heritage is based on the concept of "original sin", i.e. the apple-eating affair. But in the early 400's AD St. Pelagius, a Celtic Catholic priest in Britain challenged this notion and proclaimed "original innocence", the atmosphere of the Garden prior to the intervention of the snake…a condition not unlike the Buddhist doctrine of inherent enlightenment.
